The Institute of Organic Agricultural Economics and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance witnessed a signing ceremony between Vietnam’s Saigon Commercial Bank (SCB) and Taiwan’s Eximbank

On the morning of May 9, 2018, the Institute of Organic Agricultural and Economics, Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA) and Sunny World Investment and Development Joint Stock Company witnessed the signing ceremony of the cooperation contract. between SCB Vietnam and Taiwan’s Eximbank. The ceremony were attended by representatives of Vietnam Infrastructure and Property Development Group (VIPD), Van Thinh Phat Group, Vietnam Agricultural Development Corporation (DAVN), Lavifood Joint Stock Company, Green Consulting Group (GCG) and Vietnam Television VTV1.

As one of the largest banks in the country, SCB Vietnam is providing diversified, flexible and high quality products, services and financial solutions to a wide range of customers.

In terms of Taiwan’s Eximbank, with a strong financial position and diversified business activities, Eximbank has been a solid financial bridge for organizations and companies inside and outside Taiwan throughout the years. The combination of two banks was expected to create a big shift in international capital flows supporting agricultural Vietnam.

Under the cooperation contract, SCB and its major partner in Taiwan agreed to coordinate the disbursement of preferential credit supporting rural and cooperative development in Vietnam that Taiwan had committed from the program of attracting capital, trade promotion and investment organized by the Institute of Organic Agricultural Economics in last April.

According to statistics of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, by the end of 2017, there were 19,487 cooperatives operating in Vietnam, and in agriculture were 11,756 with an average income of VND 1.76 million/person per month; moreover, the number of agricultural cooperatives applying high technology was low. Therefore, the source of preferential capital from this contract promises to solve the capital shortage in agriculture, to realize the sustainable development of cooperative model associated with value chain of agricultural products; thereby increase income as well as help cooperative members access to advanced agricultural production models in the world.

As the co-organizer of the program, the Institute of Organic Agricultural Economics affirmed its position and mission in connecting investors as well as social resources in the same agricultural value chain, thus opening up many valuable cooperative and developing opportunities for the chain members and creating a motive force to promote Vietnamese agricultural production bigger and bigger.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Vo Tan Hoang, General Director of SCB Bank, said, “With the combination of large banks, SCB believes that this is a very valuable opportunity for Vietnam agriculture development in general and living improvement of farmers in particular who can now access to preferential credit and capital for agricultural production, development and especially for future income increase.
